CRB — Rectangular Backshell

Rectangular backshells for Micro-D, micro crimp and D-Sub connectors

The backshell is the component that manages the cable exit from the connector. On rectangular connectors, the variable that matters is the exit geometry: top, side, 45°, dual, elliptical or split.

  • Three series: CMH Micro-Hood, C7H and C2H
  • Twenty-one exit configurations in the catalog
  • For MIL-DTL-83513 (Micro-D), special micro crimp and D-Sub M24308 High Performance connectors
  • Six finishes, operation up to +200 °C · ITAR EAR FREE

C2H series options

Qwik Ty for strain relief and Slot for terminating individual shields, both specified in the part number. One-piece versions feature a 0.135 in (3.43 mm) shrink boot groove.

Screw hardware per M83513

Ten screw codes per M83513/05, with #2-56 UNC thread for sizes 9 to 69 and #4-40 UNC for size 100. Alternatively, fillister head, hex head jackscrew, extended jackscrew or female jackpost.

Materials and finishes

Six finishes, each with its own application

The finish determines conductivity, corrosion resistance and operating temperature. The CRB catalog matches each one to its typical applications.

Rectangular backshells — 6 finishes

Electroless nickel

EN

−65…+200 °C

Excellent conductivity and wear resistance. Used in avionics boxes, exoatmospheric equipment and missiles.

Passivated stainless steel

SS

−65…+200 °C

Maximum strength and corrosion resistance. Aircraft engines, landing gear, armored vehicles, marine applications.

Black zinc-nickel

BN

−65…+175 °C

RoHS-compliant, approved for MIL-DTL-38999 and AS85049 as a replacement for cadmium and hexavalent chromium. Backward-compatible with cad-plated accessories.

High-phosphorus nickel

PN

−65…+175 °C

Up to 1000 hours of salt spray when deposited over electroless nickel. Highly conductive, good lubricity.

Olive drab cadmium

CO

−65…+175 °C

Up to 500 hours of salt spray over electroless nickel. The long-standing defense and aerospace standard.

Applications

Where these components end up

The backshell catalog does not list industries for the product line itself: it lists the CPE Group’s industries and the programs in which its products have been used. We report both, adding nothing.

Contact

Let’s check compatibility together

With the connector part number and the exit configuration you need, we can confirm the exact part number. If what you need isn’t in the catalog, we’ll tell you right away — and assess whether it makes sense to build it to specification.

  • An answer from an engineer, not a switchboard
  • Special configurations to customer drawing
  • Material certifications available upon request

Check compatibility

Tell us which connector the backshell will be mounted on: we’ll reply with the correct part number or the closest alternative.
